The statistics show that just over 23% of Google user visit Gmail, with nearly 40% of Windows Live visitors going straight to Hotmail, and just under 20% of Yahoo! user going to Yahoo! Mail.
Though Facebook has greater email services than each of Google, Microsoft and Yahoo!, but email is used like an identity for other social network services. As well as Facebook relies on email to function and perform, though email is not just a communication platform.
While spam may be annoying, web services have spent years Fighting against this devastating issue. Email is still in evolutionary phase and is a safest and secure platform.
For faster communication it may be the prior choice for younger generation to connect in with their social lives, but Instant messaging and social networking provide only a bit of what email can provide. In workplace and business email will still persist as the number one choice for industry.
Besides, Younger generation may presume an email to be an obsolete or primitive as compared to some popular social networking applications like Facebook etc on smartphones. Generally, a large part of smartphone users have their email account integrated with smartphones.
Overall,Google, Microsoft and Yahoo! will continue their email service as they have no interest to loose their hundreds of millions of visitors. They will continue to upgrade the email services so that users can get the standard features instead of just receiving and sending messages. The invention will continue to keep email services as dominant choice.
